John Barrdear
I am a research economist at the Bank of England, where my policy contributions lie in monetary strategy, optimal policy and policy communication.

I have research interests in macroeconomic modelling (particularly with heterogeneous agents), determinacy, imperfect information, digital currencies, networks and, of course, monetary policy.

I obtained my PhD in 2013 from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where my supervisor was Kevin Sheedy. My viva committee was Wouter den Haan and Kris Nimark.

I originally studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Queensland, Australia (graduating in 1998), before working as a software developer and business consultant for Mincom, a specialist in Enterprise Application Software (EAS) for asset-intensive industries like mining, utilities, transportation, defence and government. I moved to the United Kingdom in 2002 and decided on a career change shortly thereafter.
